Movie Review: Cats

Image
Title:  Cats Genre:  Musical Release Date:  December 20th, 2020 My Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ IMDB Rating:  2.8/10 Cast: James Corden ,  Judi Dench ,  Jason Derulo   Summary from IMDB:  A tribe of cats called the Jellicles must decide yearly which one will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new Jellicle life.   IMDB Trailer   Review: Ok... I don't know where to start with this one. I've never seen the Broadway show Cats, even though I've heard great things about it. Getting out of the house is not a luxury I can afford with autistic kids. That's why I was excited when this movie became available streaming. Trying to ignore all the bad hype around the movie as to not set my mind of negative things, I joined the millions of avid movie watchers and sat down for a pain staking hour and fifty minutes, that sadly, I will never get back. The critics were right. This movie absolutely sucked. I can't blame the cast or the music. The movie...

Weekly Menu #388 And The Book Of The Week

Hello Monday! Weather's supposed to turn colder this week. The news called for snow in the valley, but that doesn't mean we will have it at our house. It would be nice, but I'm pretty sure there are no snow days in distance learning for the kids...  This weeks book is The Iron Trial by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare. I love both these authors so I'm excited to read a book with them combined. How will that work? I don't know. Well, this weeks menu is going to be delicious, so enjoy!  WEEKLY MENU   Monday Baked Potato Soup   Tuesday Chicken Gyros   Wednesday Instant Pot French Dip   Thursday Hibachi Chicken   Friday Sausage Stir Fry   Saturday Cowboy Quesadilla   Sunday Leftovers Night

Sunday Confessions #80

Hello Sunday. I managed to get my hands on the new Patricia Briggs book. Can't wait to read it! Also, managed to download a text to speech app for my laptop, so I can read more when I'm working. It's really the only way I'm able to read these days. Between work, school with the boys, the house and chores, there is no time for myself, and when I do finally get a moment, I'm dead on my feet and usually fall asleep standing up. Oh the life of quarantine.  Let's get back to the blog and what's been going on. Sunday Confessions #79 ~ Weekly Menu #387 And The Book Of The Week ~ Series Review: Book of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau ~ TV Review: Queens Gambit Weekly Menu #388 And The Book Of The Week ~ Book Review: Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs ~ Movie Review: Cats ~ Sunday Confessions #81 27/196 in my Star Wars Legends challenge ~ 16/20 in my Scotland challenge ~ 44/341 Gilmore Girls challenge ~ 44/100 in my 100 books before you die challenge On to another week.

TV Review: The Queen's Gambit

Image
Title:  The Queen's Gambit Genre:  Historical Fiction Release Date:  2020 My Rating: ★★★★★ IMDB Rating:  8.6/10 Cast: Anya Taylor-Joy , Chloe Pirrie , Bill Camp   Summary from IMDB:  Orphaned at the tender age of nine, prodigious introvert Beth Harmon discovers and masters the game of chess in 1960s USA. But child stardom comes at a price.   IMDB Trailer Review: I'm always reluctant to watch a series or movie that is popular. For some reason, I'm usually disappointed, finding that the hype is far greater than the actual plot of the story. This series on Netflix was an exception to my rule. From the first episode to the last, I was drawn into this strange world that normally would bore me. Who would have thought that chess would be so interesting and competitive? Not this girl. The back story of Beth really played into how she see's the world and the chess board. She had a unique way of coping and to say the least, she was a complete mess. If you...

Series Review: Book of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau

Image
I read is series over the last two years. The first book was amazing and I recommended it to my reading group, but as the series went on, the story became erratic and out there. It was like as if this wonderful dystopian world was slowly morphing into a scifi. By the end, it was no more than a first contact book. I would recommend the first book still. It was wonderful all on its own, but unless you are ready to hate the characters, don't read the rest. The City of Ember (Book of Ember #1) by   Jeanne DuPrau The city of Ember was built as a last refuge for the human race. Two hundred years later, the great lamps that light the city are beginning to flicker. When Lina finds part of an ancient message, she’s sure it holds a secret that will save the city. She and her friend Doon must decipher the message before the lights go out on Ember forever! This stunning debut novel offers refreshingly clear writing and fascinating, original characters. The People of Sparks (Book of Embe...

Weekly Menu #387 And The Book Of The Week

Good morning Monday and happy MLK day. I just want to point out that its a bank holiday, so sorry to all of you that still have to work. As a mother though, my job never ends. Sigh... This weeks book is The Nemesis by S.J. Kincaid. I absolutely love the first book in this series and then was sadly disappointed with the second book. The first was intended to be a stand alone, so I'm not sure who thought it was a good idea to expand on something so wonderful, but it just didn't work out. I'm really hoping this book will redeem my faith in this series.  We shall see... The menu this week looks absolutely delicious. Enjoy!   WEEKLY MENU   Monday Chicken Stir Fry   Tuesday 7 Layer Salad   Wednesday Ground Beef Tacos   Thursday Instant Pot Cajun Chicken Alfredo   Friday Corned Beef Panini   Saturday Cheese Burgers   Sunday Leftovers Night
