Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life—working hard all day and partying all night—until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose—to assassinate his boss’s enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he’s offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City’s underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion—one that could set them both free, if they’d only let it.

With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom—and the power of love.

Review:

This was a hard read for me and I know I'm in the minority of reviews since I only gave it 3 stars, but I'm not the kind of reviewer that loves a book just because I 'm obsessed with the author. I loved the thorns and roses series, but this book was not up to par.

It was long and slow, and I couldn't fall in love with the characters. I found that some people were just thrown into the story without any explanation as to who they were, but I got the feeling they were supposed to be important.

I wanted to fall in love with the characters and revel in the magical world building I was so used to, but instead, I was left with questions and felt as if I've been here before. If only I could have loved this one.

  1. I'm really curious about this book, the opinions are rather mixed. Although I will definitely read it at some point, I'm already expecting that I wan't love it. I did enjoy Maas' other novels while at the same time having an entire list of issues I had with them.

    1. I have to say that Maas has some epic ideas, but her execution of them is hit or miss. You will have to let me know what you think of this book when you get around to reading it.
