5 Stars
Few authors can pack this much tension into so few pages. The Tell Tale Heart is creepy, unsettling, and delightfully unhinged from beginning to end. Poe doesn't waste a single word, creating an atmosphere of dread that builds with every paragraph. I love how his stories are short, sharp, and straight to the point while still leaving a lasting impression. It's a classic for a reason, and one that's impossible to forget.
This story has good bones and an intriguing premise, and I could see the potential behind it. While it didn't fully come together for me, I think there's a solid foundation here.
The biggest challenge was that several interesting plot ideas were introduced but never fully developed, making the story feel unfocused at times. I also struggled to connect with Mira because there wasn't enough backstory or emotional depth to help me understand her motivations and reactions.
The relationship between Mira and Kahli moved a little too quickly for my taste, and the fantasy elements caught me off guard after expecting more of a straight horror novel. I also would have liked more world building and character description to help immerse me in the story.
Overall, I think this novel has a lot of potential. With stronger editing, deeper character development, and more follow through on its most compelling ideas, I believe it could become a much stronger read.
Things are getting real. Morning Star takes everything that has been building in the Red Rising saga and turns the intensity up several notches. The stakes feel higher, the battles are bigger, and the emotional punches land harder than ever.
Pierce Brown does a great job balancing action with character development. Darrow’s journey continues to evolve, and I found myself constantly wondering who would survive, who would betray whom, and what the cost of victory would ultimately be. The twists kept me turning pages, and there were several moments where I had to stop and process what had just happened.
The middle section dragged a little for me, which is the main reason this isn’t a full 5 stars, but the payoff in the final act was absolutely worth it. The ending left me excited to continue the series and see where this brutal, fascinating world goes next.
If you’ve made it this far into Red Rising, buckle up.
The Amalfi Curse was an atmospheric read with a compelling blend of mystery, history, and a touch of the supernatural. Are we saying redheads have secret water witch magic? Because if so, I'm listening.
I'm not usually a fan of dual timelines, but this one was handled well. Both storylines were engaging, and each added meaningful layers to the mystery instead of slowing the pacing. The historical and present day narratives complemented each other nicely, making it easy to stay invested in both.
If you enjoy lush settings, family secrets, and magical folklore woven into historical fiction, this is definitely worth picking up.

This is the first horror book I've truly enjoyed in a long time. From the very beginning, I was completely invested in the mystery surrounding Paynes Hollow and couldn't wait to uncover what was really happening.
What I loved most was how the story balanced its eerie atmosphere with compelling characters. The tension built steadily without relying on cheap scares, and every new revelation pulled me in deeper. By the time everything came together, I was fully on board with how the mystery unfolded.
If you're looking for horror that's more about atmosphere, suspense, and an engaging story than nonstop gore, this is an easy recommendation. It reminded me why I enjoy the genre when it's done well.
