Summary from Goodreads:

Under the rule of science, there are no witch burnings allowed, no water trials or public lynchings. In return, the average law-abiding, solid citizen has little to worry about from the things that go bump in the night. Sometimes I wish I was an average citizen...

Mechanic Mercy Thompson has friends in low places-and in dark ones. And now she owes one of them a favor. Since she can shapeshift at will, she agrees to act as some extra muscle when her vampire friend Stefan goes to deliver a message to another of his kind.

But this new vampire is hardly ordinary-and neither is the demon inside of him.

Review:

The story behind this book was very complex, but a wonderful mix of vampire and werewolf lore. Mercy owes a favor to a vampire, and when he calls at 3AM to redeem that favor, Mercy is on the hook to help him. Of course, his favor is to witness another vampire that is possessed by a demon. Mercy can't tell if the vampire is in control of the demon or its the other way around.

We dive deep into the vampire side of paranormal and its not the shinny soft vampires that you fall in love with, its the nitty gritty side that brings the underworld to life. With the complexity of the storyline and the pitfalls and shortcomings, but also unknown strength within the characters, Briggs has really built a complex world that holds true to its lore, with little twists and turns until the very end.

A wonderful paranormal read.
