“Are you
saying that someone tried to kill her?” Arsan’s voice was raised slightly, but
still quiet, distant from my ears. “I don’t know much about magic, but from
what I understood, the man who brought his army to the monastery wanted Tabor
alive not dead. Why would he send something dark to kill her?”
“Why are
you asking me such questions? I do not know of your situation or about the man
that searches for the girl, but it would be safe to say that some one wants her
dead.” Someone stoked the fire and threw on another cedar log. The comforting
smell wafted through the air to find my nostrils again. “If I were you, I wouldn't try to search out the source. This magic is powerful. More powerful
than I have ever felt. She might not survive another happening like this one.”
The fire
crackled in the background as it consumed the fresh wood. “Young man, take this
girl and get as far away from here as you can. I don’t know what kind of mess
you have gotten yourself into, but you will be killed if you stay.”
