Menu: Week 142

Well, just when you think nothing can go wrong, something does.

My back went out on Thursday, and not just the normal pain when you bend over, this was a fall on the ground cry in pain any time you breathe kind of back problem. My husband ended up calling 911 to have an ambulance take me to the ER so I could get some help. It was not pretty.

And of course, no one believes that you are in as much pain as you are in. I know back pain, I've had it since I was 18 and its something I've learned to deal with, this was not that. Now that the couch and I have come to an agreement and I've been able to walk and move again, life is starting to get back to normal.

I gave my husband an Idea to run with on Sunday and in his normal fashion, he made me this awesome little green house made out of scrap wood and glass from around the yard. He spent about $18 on hardware for the whole project. I can't wait to fill it with little plants. Grow my pretties, grow.

Here's back to another "Normal" week on the homestead. Enjoy this weeks menu!

A Good Movie and a Bad Movie

As is customary these days, my DVR has prepared a new movie selection for me to watch. I have to admit that I would have never thought about watching these movies, but I find that most of my amazing movie watching experience comes from flying by the seat of my pants. It all started when I was a teen and my best friend and I decided to pick a random movie at the movie story (Yes, we had those when I was a kid). We picked Murial's Wedding that was supposed to be a comedy, but we actually found it extremely depressing (Just ask her). That experience gave me my start in forming opinions on random movies. You should really try it some time.

This weeks first movie is (2011) Moneyball with Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill and Philip Seymour Hoffman. I'm not a huge fan of sports movies but this one was a good story.

"Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane's successful attempt to assemble a baseball team on a lean budget by employing computer-generated analysis to acquire new players." IMDB.

It's based on a true story about what Billy Beane did for the A's in 2002. At the end of the movie you find yourself routing for the underdog as Billy does what no one has ever attempted to do. It of course has one of my favorite Chris' in it, Pratt (#2 Chris), but its such a small roll, its really not about him.

This would be a great date night movie or lazy Sunday afternoon movie.

My second pick for this week is (2006) Just My Luck staring Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pin (#4 Chris). I had high hopes for this film since it was directed by Donald Petrie who also directed How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but I felt like I was dropped on my head half way through. To tell you the truth, I didn't even finish the movie.

The premise is, there is a girl (Lindsay Lohan) who has great luck and a guy (Chris Pine) who has terrible luck. They meet at a party and trade luck. All hell brakes lose and that's when I couldn't bare to watch any more. It's not that I have anything against Lindsay, because I loved Mean Girls and the Parent Trap, but I was just left with a brain leak after watching this, I couldn't do it.

The acting was way overdone, and the story was weak. It reminded me of a really badly written young adult novel, you know the ones that make you squirm when the characters talk, but not in a good way. Its just awkward.

I don't recommend this movie unless you have a strange need to watch a terrible Lindsay Lohan film.

As always, I love sharing the fun things that I find with you. If you have a movie you think I should watch, or have written a review and you would like me to feature you on my log, send me an email.

Menu: Week 140

Crazy week. I hurt my back again but found the joy in Yoga. I never thought I would understand what such a slow relaxing workout could do for my bum back. I can focus on strengthening my lower lumbar area without hurting it further. What was I waiting for?

My youngest son has drank his last bottle. He likes to spray milk all over his brothers and the floor and I warned him that if he kept wasting milk I would take it away. He didn't believe me. It was a long day yesterday, but we made it.

Here is to another wonderful week. Enjoy!

Tuesday

Wednesday

Thursday

Friday

Lost Storm Rider by Jennifer Macaire

Carl is a herder, one of the elites who follow their horses through the galaxy in search of new planets. During a passage, Carl's worst nightmare comes true when he falls off his horse. He ends up on Planet Earth, lost for nine centuries and now nearly empty because of a deadly virus.
He's rescued by Ruby and her father, who nurse him back to health, because Carl isn't immune and nearly dies when he catches the virus. He tries to adapt to "Mother Earth", a planet run by robots, where everyone is either a breeder or a sterile worker. As time passes, he becomes more attached to Ruby. He doesn't know if he can leave Ruby to her fate, or if she'd consider leaving her family and everything she knows to follow him.

Movies to make you laugh

Every once and a while, my DVR will record something that I have never heard of and frankly would have never recorded on my own. Last week I got a nice surprise when it recorded "The Five Year Engagement" from 2012.

At first, I was like "What is this?" Then I was like, "Hey, its got Chris Pratt in it." And finally I was like, "I'll give this a shot." Let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed.

Even though one of my favorite Chris' (Chris Pratt) didn't play a main roll, I still enjoyed this witty comedy about two people who are madly in love and run into some terrible bumps along the way after they get engaged.

It has some names you might recognize in it like Emily Blunt and Jason Segel. Of course Chris Pratt, Kevin Hart, Mindy Kaling and Dakota Johnson to name a few. All great actors.

The way they argued reminded me of the way my husband and I argue and the humor sound like me and my friends, so the whole thing hit home in a funny way. The ending was the best part. I'm not going to give it away, but you have to watch it. You will love it!

Check out the trailer here.

Another, more recent movie that my husband rented, was "The Intern." We both loved it!

Anne Hathaway was amazing as usual and Robert De Niro of course nailed it. Who knew that a movie about an intern in his 70's would be so hilarious.

Robert De Niro's character becomes a senior intern at a fashion company that is run by Anne Hathaway's character. She kind of has a midlife crises and Robert De Niro is there to help her through it.

My husband and I laughed and laughed through the entire movie. I would recommend it for any date night or girls night in. Cuddle up on the couch with a juice box and some crackers and enjoy the hilarity of The Intern, you won't be disappointed.

Menu: Week 139

My middle son cracks me up. This kid cant take a serious photo and now he has lost another front tooth. He finds it funny to talk with a lisp.

The weather yesterday was amazing and my husband and I got some much needed work done around the house. We moved the wood pile, washed all three cars and started on our garden boxes. Today though, is the exact opposite from yesterday and the rain has returned. What is in store for today?
